Gary Lineker: Rooney is the best man for England captain
28th August 2014

Despite Rooney's disciplinary problems, Gary Lineker is confident that the Manchester United striker will do his country proud as England captain.

The sports broadcaster said: "Hopefully Rooney’s the man to to lead the way, I think people will talk about his disciplinary problems he’s had in the past but for me he’s improved that a great deal in the last few seasons."

With 80 England caps to his name, Lineker said the role of captain is more 'off pitch' than on it, "You’re sort of a link man between the manager and the players, the media and the players and the public and the players."
