David Lammy to go for Mayor

Tottenham MP David Lammy has announced that he is seeking the Labour nomination for London Mayor.

In an exclusive interview with Evening Standard editor, Sarah Sands, he said: “the kind of mayoralty that I want is one that extends opportunity to all Londoners.”

He declared that he was at the ‘centre of British politics’ unlike Ken Livingstone and Boris Johnson who he said represented ‘part of London and not for all’.

Should he win, Lammy would become London’s first black Mayor.
