Arsene Wenger to face questions over Arsenal's defence
22nd October 2014

Arsene Wenger faces questions around his team’s defensive frailties ahead of tonight’s Champions League tie against Anderlecht.

Inexperienced goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez and makeshift centre-back Nacho Monreal are both expected to start in the Group D match, due to injuries and suspensions.

However, Amar Singh, Digital Sports Editor of the London Evening Standard, believes Arsene Wenger’s side will be confident of being able to outscore their opponents thanks to two in form attackers.

Chelsea enjoyed a 6-0 win against Slovenian side Maribor in the Champions League, while Liverpool face Real Madrid in the tie of the round.

Singh added: “This is what it’s all about for Liverpool who spent several years trying to get back in the Champions League.

“Real Madrid are one the best teams in Europe with a formidable attack, including Cristiano Ronaldo  so Liverpool cannot afford to show the defensive frailties they have shown this season or they will be punished.”
