Diwali celebration at the Shree Swaminarayan Temple in Willesden
24th October 2014

Preparations have been underway since 2am at the Shree Swaminarayan Temple in north west London as more than 5,000 people are expected to turn out for the celebrations.

The five-day festival of lights is celebrated by millions of Hindus, Sikhs and Jains across the world.

It coincides with the Hindu New Year – celebrating new beginnings and the triumph of good over evil and light over darkness.

The actual day of Diwali was celebrated yesterday (Thursday) but the Willesden temple will be marking the festival with a day of feasting, prayer and festivities today.
