City news: bad season for M&S, midterm results impact on global economy and career advice

Marks & Spencer  releases mixed results today. Though the company is optimistic about Christmas and has announced profits for its half year results, womenswear sales are down. This is being attributed to the warm Autumn and Winter - an explanation Next used recently too. However, Marks and Spencer food continues to perform strongly for the business. 

Jamie also explains how the markets have reacted to the Republican mid term election win in America - or rather, not reacted. So far there has been little change and nothing which could be strongly tied to the Republican success. 

As the banks are once again under the spotlight and facing yet more investigations, Jamie shares his career advice: work for a probe, as compliance and regulation is fast filling the very centre of the banking world.
