Rainbow list: Michael Cashman given top spot

Katy Guest, Literary Editor of the Independent on Sunday, talks through the new Rainbow List. 

The list is a celebration of lesbian, bisexual, gay, and transgender people. It hopes to promote equality for all. 

Katy talks through some of those who've been named, including Michael Cashman, who was given the number one spot. 

Some may recognise Michael as Colin in EastEnders, who one half of the first gay kiss on mainstream British TV. Later he became a Member of the European Parliament for 15 years.

A founder of Stonewall in 1989, he has long been a campaigner for LGBT rights.

In May this year, Michael became a member of the House of Lords, aged 63. 

He was appointed a CBE in the 2013 New Year Honours.
