Heathrow and Gatwick runway costs much more than expected
11th November 2014

The cost of expanding either Heathrow or Gatwick Airport will be a lot more than many estimates have suggested, according to the Airports Commission.

The group have added £2 billion to the initial estimate to build a second runway at Gatwick, while two separate plans to expand Heathrow could also be £3-4 billion more expensive than first thought as increasing demand in the South East continues.

Today's report comes as the commission launches a three week public consultation on the remaining proposals, of which there are three; a second runway at Gatwick, a third one at Heathrow, or the extension of an existing runway at Heathrow.
