Angeline Jolie directed and produced Unbroken, which tells the harrowing story of Louis “Louie” Zamperini.
Louie, a former Olympic track runner, survived a plane crash in the Pacific and spent forty-seven days drifting on a raft before being captured by the Japanese military and subjected to two-and-a-half years in a prisoner of war camp.
The film, which drew enormous crowds at its premiere this evening, stars Jack O’Connell as Zamperini. Domhall Gleeson and Garrett Hedlund co-star.
Maleena Pone was on the red carpet and chatted to Japanese musician Miyavi, who plays Mutsuhiro "The Bird" Watanabe in the film. Watanabe was a Imperial Japanese Army sergeant in the Second World War who was later classified as a war criminal for his treatment of POWs held by the Japanese military.
