Spitting could result in £80 fine
11th December 2014

Councillor Clyde Loakes joined Wake Up London to talk about a new proposal by the Transport and Environment Committee which would make spitting on London’s streets to be punishable with an £80 fine.

Three councils already have fines in place for spitting, including Waltham Forest.

Councillor Loakes discusses the practicalities of running a scheme, the success Waltham Forest have had so far, and the difficulties they have faced.

The proposals would likely grant leeway to those spitting with a “reasonable excuse”, or spitting into something.
