Premier League January transfer window preview: Chelsea

Although the Blues manager Jose Mourinho has promised that there will be little transfer action at Stamford Bridge during January, he may be unable to prevent a couple of unhappy players departing West London.

Having lost his starting place to Thibaut Courtois, Chelsea’s long-serving goalkeeper Petr Cech has been linked with a move to many of Europe’s top clubs, but Johnson thinks it is unlikely he will be able to force his departure until the summer.

Egyptian international Mohammed Salah has struggled to make an impact since arriving at Chelsea in 2013 and with limited playing time available to him at Stamford Bridge, a loan move is a genuine possibility.

Although Mourinho has insisted that he’s satisfied with his squad, if there were a player who could strengthen the Blues, it would be Real Madrid’s Sami Khedira, who has fallen out of favour with the European Champions - but Johnson believes Chelsea may have to wait until the summer to capture the German World Cup winner.
