La Braya: Spotlight

La Braya is a 19-year-old singer songwriter from east London who says her sound is reflecting the area, which she calls "raw" and "organic".

She is striving to produce "unpredictable" music, playing with beats from hip-hop and house as well using the best from the mainstream.

Influenced at an early age by the likes of Mary J. Blige and Lauryn Hill, La Braya’s sound also draws from the likes of The Weeknd and Frank Ocean.

She explains how old-school rappers such as Nas have shaped her music.

She gave London Live an exclusive performance of “Spotlight“. She was joined by rapper Beneficial.

La Braya sat down earlier in the evening to speak with Louise Scodie about her influences, her songwriting process and what she hopes to achieve with her own music, following her "cover season".
