Londoner named ‘top of the hops’ tasked with tasting ale across the city

If you've embarked on a dry January you may want to look away now.

As Jane Payton from Fulham has been tasked with the role of tasting ale all over the capital. She has been appointed official Ale Taster by a leading pub chain, Taylor Walker.

She landed the new job after she was voted ‘top of the hops’ for her beer tasting YouTube channel by alcohol lovers across the UK.

She will be visiting some of the oldest pubs in London including a few you may want to try yourself:

  • The Punch and Judy in Covent Garden, which dates from 1787.
  • The Adam & Eve which is oldest pub in Westminster.
  • The Grenadier, in Belgrave Square rumoured to be London’s most Haunted pub.
  • And the Museum Tavern in Bloomsbury, which used to be one of Karl Marx’s favourite haunts.

She joined Wake Up London to talk through what ales she will be testing and why she has taken up the challenge.
