BAFTA nominations, Foxcatcher and Into the Woods

Today marked the launch of the BAFTA award nominations. Stephen Fry and Sam Claflin announced the nominees from the Princess Anne Theatre this morning.

London Live were there this morning and spoke to Stephen about the awards

London Live's Entertainment Producer Simon Thompson discusses the nominees, including the rather unsurprising announcement that both Benedict Cumberbatch and Eddie Redmayne are in the running for best actor. Simon, though, thinks it's about time we heard more about the excellent performances by women this year. In particular, he singles out Felicity Jones as Jane Hawking in The Theory of Everything.

Simon explains why mystical musical Into the Woods left him underwhelmed. While visually satisfying, it didn’t quite come together. Despite an excellent cast, wonderful music and a strong plot, Simon felt it didn’t quite mesh.

He also tells us why Foxcatcher made him look at the cast in a whole new way. The wrestling thriller, Chanum Tatum and Steve Carrell prove they can do serious acting as well - if not better - than they do comedy. Co-star Mark Ruffalo proves yet again he is one of the most undervalued and underated actors in Hollywood today.
