Successful baby organ transplants saves two

It is the first time such complicated surgery was carried out on a newborn.

It has been described as a milestone in neo-natal care.

Doctors have successfully transplanted organs from a newborn baby who died six days after birth to two other patients.

The child's kidneys were transplanted to a patient with renal failure, and the child’s liver cells were donated to a patient with liver damage.

The operation took place at Hammersmith Hospital, London Live’s Maleena Pone was live at this location.

It is the first time doctors have performed such a complicated surgery on a newborn child.

The six-day-old baby girl suffered irreperal brain damage in the womb.

Neither the family of the child or the recipients of the organs have been named due to patient confidentiality.
