Tributes paid to Winston Churchill on anniversary of funeral

The journey Winston Churchill’s coffin took along the Thames in 1965 was recreated today on the 50th anniversary of his funeral.

More than 350 million people watched on TV as the Port of London Authority’s flagship vessel, the Havengore, carried the leaders coffin.

Tower Bridge was raised as it passed underneath after which the Royal Navy museum ship HMS Belfast delivered its four-gun salute.

Alison Earle reports from Tower Bridge.
