Brixton Soup Kitchen prepares for the Christmas season

Brixton Soup Kitchen is extending its hours in a bid to cater for more homeless people across the capital during the festive season.

The charity will open until 6pm in the days leading up to Christmas and will be open until 10pm on Christmas Day itself.

Homeless shelters across the capital are preparing for a busy Christmas as new figures reveal there's been a 16 per cent rise in rough sleepers this year.

Research by the charity Crisis, shows more than 7,000 people have slept on London's streets - with one in four expected to spend the festive period alone this year.

We went to see how the staff and volunteers at Brixton Soup Kitchen are preparing to help the homeless during the festive season.
