Sir Ben Kingsley says "London's cabbies should be protected like an endangered species"

Sir Ben Kingsley believes that London's black cab drivers need to be protected from threats to their industry.

The capital's cabbies have mounted protests in recent months over what they see as unfair competition, and now the Oscar-winning actor - who plays a Sikh taxi driver (and driving instructor) in the new film Learning to Drive, has come to their support.

Kingsley, speaking to London Live's Luke Blackall, also said the UK should be proud of its history of helping refugees.

Learning to Drive is out on Friday 10th June.
