Huge rise in food bank use in the last year

In the 12 months to the end of March - more than 134,000 emergency food supplies were handed out to Londoners in crisis - a rise of almost a quarter on the previous year.

It's the first time the Trussell Trust has released figures specifically for the captial, and the charity says its evidence that changes to the benefit system is leaving an increasing number of families unable to afford the essentials.
