London shines light on female musicians

It's been announced around 200 gigs and live music performances will be taking place across June, celebrating London's unsung talent of the industry.

Justine Simons OBE, Deputy Mayor for Culture and the Creative Industries, spoke to London Live about the importance of the month-long extravaganza, which provides exposure to female musicians and grassrots venues.

It follows a recent decline over the last 8 years in both capacities, with numerous venue closures as well as a lack of females across live music line-ups.

Justine picks out the event, 'Party in a Peckham car park', as a particular highlight, as the Multi-Storey Orchestra and guests pull an all-nighter of live performances.

It's all part of Sadiq Khan's 'BehindEveryGreatCity' campaign, with Londoners encouraged to support the events and celebrate the capital's most exciting female talent and venues.
