Campaigners protest new curfew in Hackney

Hundreds of campaigners gathered outside Hackney Town Hall to protest against a new curfew that would see restaurant and bars close at midnight.

Among other issues, residents were concerned about possible effect the curfew would have on LGBT+ venues.

A Hackney Council spokesperson said "The new licensing policy adopted last week aims to strike a balance between a growing night-time economy and the impact on our increasingly stretched public services. The Council will monitor and review the impact of these licensing changes and ensure all those who care about the issue are involved in these discussions."
