Judge Rules English Law Applies to Islamic Marriage

A High Court judge has ruled that an estranged couple's Islamic faith marriage is valid under English law.

Mohammed Shabaz Khan wanted to block a divorce application from his wife Nasreen Akhter on the basis that he claimed they were only married under sharia law, following a ceremony in Southall 20 years ago.

The court today dismissed this argument.
