Death of flat fire man now murder investigation
19th May 2014

Police have launched a murder investigation after the death of a man following a flat fire in New Barnet last week. The 49-year-old man from Enfield was stabbed to death and left for days before his body was doused in petrol and set on fire.

Antonio Tommaso's badly burned body was found by firefighters and police at Sheridan Lodge on Potters Road in New Barnet last Thursday night, after being called to the property at 7:15pm.

They initially believed it was a non- suspicious fire, possibly a suicide.

But a postmortem examination over the weekend revealed that Mr Tommaso was stabbed numerous times before his death, in what officers say was one of the most 'brutal and horrific' attacks they've ever seen.

They say Tommaso probably knew his killers and would have agreed to have them in his flat.

A red petrol can is the only evidence found at the scene and there is no known motive for the murder.
