Canal users threaten boat blockage if Canalival festival returns
29th May 2014

Boat owners have threatened to blockade Regent’s Canal to prevent a flotilla of revellers passing through this weekend.

Last year a trail of destruction was in the wake of Canalival - which saw hundreds of people take to the canal in Hackney for the unlicensed booze-fuelled floating festival.

Despite Saturday’s planned party being cancelled after police issued a warning of a clamp down, canal users and locals still fear it will return.

Last summer saw party-goers using neighbouring communal gardens as makeshift toilets, wildlife habitats were destroyed and litter was dumped in the canal and strewn across the toll paths.

This year’s organisers have removed the Facebook page for the event and messages have been issued on social networking sites encouraging people to stay away.
