Cyclist Killed in Collision
A lorry driver has been arrested after a cyclist died in a crash in south London.
A 47-year-old male cyclist was hit at Walworth Roundabout in Elephant and Castle Junction at around 4pm, police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The 49-year-old driver of the lorry is in custody after being arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving.
The cyclist is the fifth to be killed on London's roads in 2014, and the second to die this year in a collision with an HGV.
A police spokesman said: "Upon arrival officers found a male cyclist suffering serious injuries following a collision with a HGV.
"London Ambulance Service and London Air Ambulance attended the scene. The male cyclist died at the scene."
Police are now appealing for witnesses to the crash. The victim's has not yet been formally identified.
Campaigners are now calling for lorries to be banned from central London.
