Investigation launched after woman crushed to death by tree branch
11th June 2014

A falling tree branch killed a woman waiting for a bus in north-west London - just inches from two terrified children.

Witnesses said the 56-year-old was taking the young children home from a nearby primary school in Willesden Green when the 20ft branch came down at about 4pm yesterday.

The woman, who has not been named, died at the scene.

A man in his 70s who was also waiting for the bus suffered serious injuries and is being treated in hospital.

The two children escaped by inches.

An investigation into the accident has been launched by Brent Council following criticism by nearby householders that the trees had not been properly maintained.
