Too Many Children Illiterate Before Starting School

The Education Secretary says children starting primary school unable to read simple words, and communicate in sentences is a persistent scandal.

Research shows the problem affects more than a quarter of four and five year olds. Damian Hinds has today promised to half that by 2028.

The Children's Literacy Charity says a number of issues must be addressed.
