DanceWest announces Ignition Dance Festival choreographers

After a nationwide search, six exciting choreographers have been selected to take part in Ignition Dance Festival.

Each will create an original work to be premiered on Saturday, 2 July at the Rose Theatre, Kingston.

Choreographers participating in this year's festival are: Cindy Claes, Salah El Brogy, Thomasin Gulegc, Estela Merlos, Jane Coulston and Sally Marie.

All six have performed with some of the world’s leading choreographers and dance companies before launching their own choreographic careers.

Festival organisers, DanceWest - founded by Choreographer and Producer Rosie Whitney-Fish in 2013, have been delighted by the volume and quality of applications.

Rosie said: "The interest we've had from dance artists has been astonishing, but the choreographers we've commissioned are really special.

"The festival, now in its third year, is going from strength to strength."

Ignition is the only festival of its kind in West London, showcasing new and innovative choreography at the Rose Theatre, Kingston and the Lyric Hammersmith.

"Audiences can look forward to an evening of inspiring and distinctive dance that draws on the nationalities and cultural influences of the participating choreographers," Rosie added.

The festival is a partnership between DanceWest, Kingston Council, Kingston University. Supported by Lyric Hammersmith and Arts Council England, the choreographers receive a bursary, dramaturgy from veteran journalist Donald Hutera and support package designed by DanceWest.
