The Afghan Youth Orchestra on their London show after visa turmoil

After a back and forth with the Home Office, the Afghan Youth Orchestra will be allowed to perform at London’s Southbank centre after all.

It followed a decision to deny the group visas for entry was reversed.

The AYO’s ‘Breaking the Silence’ tour was supposed to go ahead tomorrow night before heading to Liverpool, Manchester and Birmingham.

The U-turn came after pressure from organisers and participants including Darius from the Afghan and central Asian association here in the capital, who told us this morning they were deeply disappointed and then subsequently delighted at the backtrack.

Shadia sat down with him ahead of issues to talk about why the orchestra is coming to London and what makes them so special.

Well the Afghan Youth Orchestra has no other choice but to reschedule its date but will perform in the coming weeks.
