Should parents be able to take their children on holiday during term time?
28th October 2014

Given that it is currently half time for many children, many school pupils will be on holiday with their family. this week is half term.

However, given that fares are significantly cheaper when term is in, some parents prefer to take their children away outside of the holidays. However, if they do, they face a fine.

Now, though, the Local Government Association has called for headteachers to be given the power to decide whether a parents' plea is justified.

Priya Dutta from the Campaign for Real Education and Michael Neal, an assistant head teacher from South London, join Headline London to discuss whether parents should be free to take their children away whenever they like or whether the effect is too detrimental on a child's education to be allowed.
