New Era residents face £1,800 rent increase
17th November 2014

It's a Christmas present nobody would want: residents in the New Era housing estate are facing increased rent as a the owners, Westbrook Partners, have rescinded their promise not to raise rents until 2016.

The rents are expected to rise from around £600 a month to £2,400.

The rises mean many will not be able to continue living in their current homes. Residents are concerned as they face a fragmentation of their long established community and are powerless to stop the increases.

The incidents have induced protests, which have attracted the likes of Russell Brand. The protesters got Benyon Estate to pull their interest in the housing estate which was perceived as a victory - until these rent rises have been announced as a consequence.
