Net Migration risen to 260,000 over last year
27th November 2014

The government is reported to have been dealt a serious blow after figures revealed more people are coming to live in the UK than are leaving.

Net migration rose to 260,000 in the twelve months between June 2013 and June this year.

This figure is up 78,000 on the previous year. The Prime Minister promised in 2011 that the figure would be under 100,000 by May 2015.

Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg now says setting a target was a mistake.

However, the good news for the government is that migrants are positively contributing to the economy.
