Gatwick claim Heathrow fighting dirty in airport expansion stand-off
3rd December 2014

Heathrow vs Gatwick is beginning to look like a desperate title fight as both sides sling mud on the other.

As the stand-off heats up, Gatwick today claimed Heathrow had set up a fake community support group for its expansion plans.

"Back Heathrow" was described today by Gatwick as wearing "the mask of a community group when they are simply a campaign arm of Heathrow, set up and funded by the airport”.

The pro-Heathrow expansion group claims to have 50,000 members. Heathrow had always been open about helping initially fund the group, but it hadn't yet been revealed just how much they had paid. Matthew describes the news as "a bit of an embarrassment" for the airport.
