New report condemns Boris over London air pollution
8th December 2014

A report on London's air pollution has been released which condemns London's current policy and practice.

Murad Quereshi,  Labour Environment Spokesperson and London Assembly member joined Wake Up London to share his feelings on the report, Boris Johnson and the Government.

He argues that both the Mayor and the Government have failed to tackle one of London's biggest challenges and says more must be done to properly resolve the public health challenges.

We also hear the recommendations in the report which outline, amongst other things, changes in planning rules to stop new schools and hospitals being built in air pollution hotspots.

Simon Birkett, founder of Clean Air in London and Jay Das, who is the head of planning at law firm Wedlake Bell discuss the matter further.

They discuss whether London is flagging behind other European capitals as France moves to ban diesel vehicles. We hear why pollution is almost as dangerous as smoking and why Simon supports the calls for bans on building schools and hospitals in pollution hot spots.  Jay explains why such measures have complicated practical implications.
