Tottenham face Newcastle and Fifa in another embarrassing scandal

Amar Singh, the Evening Standard’s Digital Sports Editor, rounds up the week in sport.

An exciting game saw Chelsea defeat Derby 3-1, in a match which saw Derby go down to ten men.

Jose Mourinho made a statement of intent after playing a strong side.

Traditionally, he has put weaker sides but this match strongly suggests he wants to win the Capital One Cup.

Sheffield scalped a tired looking Southampton. The loss is another in the Saints's miserable run, which has seen the team lose five matches in a row.

After a strong start to the season, this loss is will sting. Sheffield, however, are likely to be flying high ahead of their next game.

This is their second big win in recent months, having beaten West Ham earlier on this season.

Amar predicts the Bournemouth - Liverpool match could be another “giant killing”.

Amar expects a confident Bournemouth to jump on and exploit any weakness Liverpool reveal. Liverpool have been a struggling side recently, lacking firepower and looking decidedly jaded.

The Tottenham - Newcastle fixture could be make or break for Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino, who has been criticised for his controversial training techniques.

His heavy squad rotation and intensive training schedules have both been subject to scrutiny. If his team can prevail over Newcastle, it should quieten some of the disparaging commentary.
