Campaign to keep Tesco from ‘killing’ Belsize Park high street

An independent trader in Belsize park is campaigning to keep Tesco off his local high street.

This comes after the supermarket submitted an application to Camden Council for an alcohol selling licence, on Christmas Eve.

Andrew Thornton runs a Budgens store in Haverstock hill, he says that his and other shops on the high street will be ‘killed’ off if Tesco were get the go ahead.

Mr Thornton has experienced this once before, when he previously had to sell his franchise for the store in Crouch End, suffering from a recent development of a Waitrose Supermarket on the area.

Today Mr Thornton has met for a meeting with his fellow campaigners, and joined Headline London to discuss the matter.
