Whiteleys redevelopment given the green light

Controversial plans to redevelop Whiteleys shopping centre in Bayswater have been given the go-ahead by Westminster Council.

At a planning meeting councillors backed the proposals by a 3:1 majority.

That's despite two online petitions highlighting concerns over the development which attracted more than 2000 signatures.

Campaigners fear the new scheme, which includes two 10-storey towers, will block the light.

Members of the Get Whiteleys Right campaign say the £1 billion redevelopment offers no affordable housing and believe the luxury properties being planned will be left empty.
