The newest addition to London's skyline

If you've been near the Blackwall Tunnel recently you may have noticed an unusual metallic structure taking shape.

Measuring 49 metres high and made from aluminium, the Optic Cloak is a focal point of the Greenwich Peninsula's new development.

It was designed by the British artist Conrad Shawcross, who describes it as an architectural intervention rather than a sculpture.

With it's pleated and perforated skin which changes with the light, it's an object to marvel at, but also serves a purpose as a chimney for the area's low carbon energy centre.
