Calls for more testing of group b Strep in pregnancy

A charity has called on health bosses to extend a screening process, which has been trialed at a hospital in London.

Doctors at Northwick Park in Harrow have been testing pregnant women for group B Strep - a bacteria which can lead to their babies developing sepsis, pneumonia and meningitis.

They say the scheme has reduced the rate of these illnesses by more than 80 percent.
