Blue Plaque commemorates the 250th anniversary of the circus

On Easter Monday, two hundred and fifty years ago, a former cavalry officer and his wife staged a display of trick horse riding in Lambeth.

Philip and Patty Astley's show was a huge success and led to the creation of modern circuses.

To mark the anniversary, a ceremony took place to unveil a blue plaque on the very spot of the Astley's original show.
