Children locked in police cells, as there's no alternative

Police say they have no alternative but to lock children in police cells because there is not enough suitable accommodation for them when they are detained by officers.

The London Assembly Police and Crime Committee is urging the Mayor and local councils to provide suitable places where young people can be held safely.

In a report published today, it says there should be a robust assessment of the treatment of children held in custody.
