Locals petition against Southwark Park event

A petition over a lantern festival in South London has now gained more than 600 signatures, amid claims of anti-social behaviour and noise.

Southwark Council approved the 'Alice in Winterland' event for Southwark Park - which will run for 42 days.

The local authority says the money it makes will allow it to run free events, but campaigners say this festival is not worth the cost to the park and those who use it.

In response to the concerns of locals, Southwark Council said,

"The event is planned for the quieter, winter months and we hope it will bring lots of local residents into the park at a time when it is less well used.
