The National Audit Office report on the Windrush scandal

The National Audit Office has been conducting a report since the Windrush scandal erupted - with details of the Home Office's "hostile environment" policy.

Earlier this year, thouands of people from Commonwealth countries living here legally in Britain for decades were wrongly classed as illegal immigrants and asked to leave or even deported in some cases.

The findings say it failed to give sufficient consideration to the risk of unfair consequences - even though it knew four years ago it could cause problems for some people with the legal right to live in the UK.
