Will there be a BME banknote?

More than 200 people including cultural leaders and politicians are supporting a campaign to put a historic figure from a black and minority ethnic background on the new £50 note.

The Bank of England in November appealed for public nominations for the person to appear on the note - with nominations closing LAST Friday

The final choice will be announced by Mark Carney next year but the Bank of England governor has already indicated that a certain scientist will be featured on the note.

Campaigning for the BME face is Patrick Vernon and Zehra Zaidi.
