Parents protest over children's centre closures

A protest has taken place in Brixton over concerns about funding for childrens services in the area.

The demo was as the local authority are set to meet to agree its budget.

Parents and Union members say councillors are planning to close five centres, and reduce services at seven more.

Cllr Jennifer Brathwaite, the Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Children and Young People has said in response:

"Unfortunately, the funding challenge does mean withdrawing funding from five centres. This is a tough decision but one we have made based on centre's location and accessibility to them for most parents. Unfortunately, the funding challenge does mean withdrawing funding from five centres.
