Controversial phone mast to be extended

In 2019 Worcester Park residents were outraged that the 12.5 metre telephone mast in their area was set to be extended by 5 metres. The original mast was met with opposition before it was installed in 2016. It was since painted green to blend in with the trees. But now the extension will reach above the treetops, in an effort to accommodate 5G and improve signal. In response, Epsom & Ewell Borough Council say the height proposals do not pose a conflict with restrictions or replacing or altering the mast. Meanwhile, the networks who use the mast, Telefónica and Vodafone, say they are working to upgrade coverage for their customers in the area.
