Thief jailed for stealing unconscious woman's handbag
18th June 2014

A heartless thief who stole a handbag from an unconscious woman lying in the road has been jailed.

The 25-year-old victim had been in a collision with a moped in Cambridge Circus that had been involved in a smash and grab raid at the Dorchester Hotel when Craig Edwards swiped her bag.

The woman lay in the road unconscious when she was targeted by 35-year-old Edwards, of Great Chapel Street on Tuesday last week.

She was taken to hospital but was later discharged.

Edwards was arrested after an officer spotted him in the area two days after the theft.

He admitted to the theft at Westminster Magistrates Court on Friday and has been jailed for eight months.

Police are continuing to appeal for information about six men who robbed the Dorchester Hotel.
