Thames Tideway ‘Super Sewer’ finishes tunnelling

Tunnelling was completed on Thames Tideway’s ‘Super Sewer,’ below our very feet here in the capital.

The 25km tunnel runs from Acton to Beckton and will be officially completed in 2025.

Tideway say it will prevent more than 95% of the sewage pollution that currently spills into the River Thames.

James caught up with one of the lead figures in its construction to learn more, not long after the team celebrated by watching a live performance from musician Rob Lewis.

The cellist created a ‘Sound of the Sewer’ composition that he played 70 metres underground.
