Simon Calder on what to expect when foreign travel is allowed May 17th

The green, amber and red lists, based on an assessment of coronavirus risks, are expected to be published by the Department for Transport on Friday.

International leisure travel is expected to be permitted to resume for people in England from May 17.

No dates have been set by the UK’s devolved administrations.

Many big names from the travel industry have criticised the cautious approach of the governments approach to allowing foreign holidays – particularly over its plans to make UK travellers take coronavirus tests even when they have been fully vaccinated.

Simon Calder gave us his predictions for which countries might be completely fair game from that date, as well as some helpful advice for those planning to go away.
