‘The better team won’, Football Daily’s Dougie Critchley reviews England at EURO 2024
It wasn’t meant to be for Gareth Southgate and and England as the Three Lions fell to a 2-1 defeat to Spain in Berlin.
It was a difficult night from the start as England defended in their own half for much of the game, falling behind shortly after half time.
Chelsea’s Cole Palmer came off the bench to level the game up with 17 minutes to go but Spain scored late on to break English hearts.
It’s now 58 years since the England men’s team won a major tournament final.
