New Prince Philip film on London Live

Prince Philip: An Extraordinary Life

In light of the news of the death of Prince Philip, London Live will be looking back at his remarkable life with a new documentary, ‘Prince Philip: An Extraordinary Life’.

With contributions from Gyles Brandreth, Philip Eade, Penny Junor, Jeffrey Archer and Emily Nash, the programme explores his journey from his birth on Corfu in 1921, to becoming the longest-serving royal consort in British history.

Buckingham Palace announced Philip’s death just after midday issuing a statement that spoke about how the royal family joined with people across the globe “mourning his loss”.

The Palace said in a statement: “It is with deep sorrow that Her Majesty The Queen announces the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.

“His Royal Highness passed away peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle.

“Further announcements will made in due course.

“The Royal Family join with people around the world in mourning his loss.”

In this new film, a powerful portrait of a man who was often the subject of conflicting opinions, we see how he lived his life on the national stage through Britain’s move from Empire to Commonwealth amid all the extraordinary political and social changes that have taken place since he married Princess Elizabeth in 1947.
